IDCheck for Enhanced Identity Verification

You may encounter the new verification system if you visit a shared branch credit union location and have out-of-state identification. Learn about what to expect and find answers to questions you may have about the new process.

The IDCheck system introduces a new fraud prevention process within the shared branch network. Credit union members using an out-of-state ID at a shared branch location will now be required to complete additional steps to verify their identity when making withdrawals. The measure aims to enhance protection against identity theft and fraud. Learn more about protecting yourself from ID theft.

As a BECU member, you'll only be required to complete the IDCheck process if you're using an out-of-state ID at a shared branch location. The change does not affect BECU or other credit union members making withdrawals at their own credit union, only when visiting a partner credit union in the shared branch network

IDCheck at BECU

BECU will implement this system at our locations starting May 1, 2025. At that time, we'll require these extra steps for non-BECU members using an ID issued from a different state than the BECU location they're visiting. Find one near you on our Locations page.

How It Works

If you use an out-of-state ID to make a cash or check withdrawal at a shared branch location, a representative will direct you to scan a QR code with your mobile device camera that launches the IDCheck process.

  1. Scan the QR code when you are at the branch to launch ID Check in your phone's web browser or visit verify.coop.org.
  2. Tap Step 1: Scan ID
  3. Enter the name of your credit union (BECU).
  4. Enter your account number.
  5. Enter the last four digits of your Social Security number.
  6. Agree to the terms.
  7. Take photos of your government-issued ID. Follow the on-screen instructions. Grant camera access if necessary.
  8. Take a photo of yourself.
  9. Save your ID and photo for future visits.
  10. After verifying and authenticating your information, the system will provide you with a one-time passcode that is valid for 20 minutes.
  11. Show your code to a BECU representative and follow their instructions to complete the process.

We encourage you to save your ID and photo. If you do, next time you visit you'll receive your one-time passcode as soon as you scan the QR code, skipping steps 2 through 9.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I need to do this every time?

If you save your ID and photo the first time you use IDCheck, you can skip many of the steps on subsequent visits.

What if I'm a BECU member using an out-of-state ID at BECU?

This doesn't affect BECU members visiting BECU locations. This only affects credit union members, including BECU members, visiting shared branch locations in the Co-op Financial Services credit union network.

Can I use a military ID?

No. Military IDs are a valid form of identification, but they cannot be used with IDCheck due to federal regulation. Please work with the shared branch credit union for an alternative method to verify your identity when using a military ID.
