How You Can Celebrate Pride From Your Living Room
Across the world, Pride month is a time of celebration for members and allies of the LGBTQ+ community. Pride festivities may look a little different this year, with some events and annual parades postponed or even cancelled due to the pandemic. But, have no fear, you can still get in on the celebration - without even having to leave your home.
In past years, BECU has been a proud sponsor and participant in the Seattle Pride Parade, a celebration that draws thousands of people to the streets of Seattle. This year, although the annual Seattle Pride Fest won't be taking place in-person, you can still show your support and get in on the fun by attending the virtual weekend-long Pride Fest: "Together for Pride."
Together for Pride will be a completely virtual community celebration that is free for anyone that would like to attend, starting June 26-28. It will be a fun-filled weekend of honoring and celebrating the LGBTQ+ community, featuring panels, guest speakers, artists, live music, drag performances and more. Instead of a parade float, BECU will host a virtual room during the festival on Sunday, June 28 from noon to 6pm. Put on your fiercest Pride outfit, and turn your living room into a dance party with us as we host live performances by DJ Trent Von, and disco cover band Hit Explosion.
Aside from the weekend festivities, you can also tune in to Pride with the Guide, a virtual event featuring remarks from some of the most impactful LGBTQ+ leaders and advocates in Washington State. Hosted by GBSA: Washington's LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce, you can sign up for the virtual event, or watch via Facebook Live.
Other Ways to Celebrate Virtually:
Global Pride, Saturday June 27: The first ever worldwide LGBTQ+ event. Featuring popular entertainers such as Laverne Cox, Adam Lambert, and Kesha, to leaders from around the world such as Justin Trudeau, the Canadian prime minister, and Nancy Pelosi, U.S. House speaker. Available on Global Pride and iHeartRadio.
'United in Pride' Film Festival, now through Sunday June 28: A film festival dedicated to celebrating LGBTQ+ filmmakers and creators. Enjoy a collection of features and short films, as well as other queer cinema. Available via OutFest.
